On La Palma, the birds, some of which are not very shy, live in the area of Roque de Los Muchachos, in the laurel forest of Los Tilos, in pine forests and barrancos, over cliffs and resting and barbecue places such as Refugio El Pilar.
They are omnivorous and peck insects, berries, carrion, small animals such as beetles and earthworms, mice, lizards, shellfish, fruit, eggs and grains, contributing to the distribution of seeds of endemic plants (e.g. Sabina).
