Los Tilos, Los Sauces

In 1983, UNESCO protected the area of Los Tilos as a biosphere reserve. Many hiking trails lead into the enchanted laurel forest, which is one of the highlights of a visit to the island. This type of primeval forest exists only in very few places – once found everywhere in Europe, the laurisilva survived only on Madeira, the Azores and some of the Canary Islands.
