Below the volcanoes San Antonio and Teneguía is the protected area with the magnificent salt garden. In the 1960s, the expansion of the salt flats began here, which was interrupted in 1971 by the eruption of Teneguía. Its lava flow stopped just short of the site, thus giving the "Sal Marina Teneguía" its name.
