Spring is the flowering time of the Canary Island pine, which – where it has room – forms a broad crown, otherwise it strives narrowly to a height of 30 to 50 metres. It "milks" the water from the trade wind clouds and thus also regulates the water balance of the forests that cover almost two-thirds of the island. As a result, the ground under a pine tree can be moist while it is dry all around.
